Quantifying debris-flow hazard and risk based on fan sector

چکیده
We show how a quantitative estimate of debris-flow hazard and risk can be derived simply from the position infrastructure on fan relative to apex most likely flow path (e.g., active channel). Fan sectors spatial probability impact in each sector are based fan-normalized heat map impacts 146 mapped areas across 30 fans southwestern British Columbia, Canada. As proof-of-concept, we provide an example for annual life loss individual who occupies home various fan. The results comparable broad findings assessments completed at 10 Columbia Alberta, Canada with similar characteristics. method presented here is way obtain high-level prior detailed site-specific assessment.

Assessing Debris Flow Hazard by Credal Nets
Debris flows are among the most dangerous and destructive natural hazards that affect human life, buildings, and infrastructures. Starting from the ’70s, significant scientific and engineering advances in the understanding of the processes have been achieved [4, 7]. Yet, human expertise is still fundamental for hazard identification, as many aspects of the whole process are poorly understood; a...
متن کاملCh 2. Quantifying hazard losses
This chapter considers the natural hazard Risk Manager as an agent for choosing between interventions that affect the impact of future hazards. As such, it is possible to proceed broadly quantitatively, and to set aside the many less-quantifiable concerns that arise during a period of real-time hazard management. Thus the aim is to describe a framework in which it is possible to address questio...
متن کاملHazard Ratings of Debris Flow Evacuation Sites in Hillside Communities of Ershui Township, Changhua County, Taiwan
Global warming in recent years has resulted in climate change. To cope with future climate change and natural environment changes, much of our planning and thinking needs to be adjusted. To this end, safety and rapidness of evacuation have become primary research goals. In this study, geographic information and fuzzy expert systems are applied to debris flow evacuation sites in Ershui Township,...
متن کاملHazard Assessment of Debris-Flow along the Baicha River in Heshigten Banner, Inner Mongolia, China
This study focused on a cloud model approach for considering debris-flow hazard assessment, in which the cloud model provided a model for transforming the qualitative and quantitative expressions. Additionally, the entropy method and analytical hierarchy process were united for calculating the parameters weights. The weighting method avoids the disadvantages inherent in using subjective or obje...
متن کاملInfluence of rheology on debris-flow simulation
Systems of partial differential equations that include the momentum and the mass conservation equations are commonly used for the simulation of debris flow initiation, propagation and deposition both in field and in laboratory research. The numerical solution of the partial differential equations can be very complicated and consequently many approximations that neglect some of their terms have ...
